Bio

Jacob Sherman is the Sustainability Curriculum Coordinator for the Institute for Sustainable Solutions at Portland State University where he leads programs, partnerships, and projects that seek to unleash higher education’s ability to address society's complex problems. Jacob leads a variety of academic initiatives, including PSU's largest community-engagement program focused on urban sustainability. He is co-editor of a book series, titled Sustainable Solutions (Greenleaf Publishing, forthcoming). Jacob previously worked for PSU’s award-winning general education program, University Studies, to better integrate student research, engagement, and creative activities into the undergraduate curriculum.

Jacob prides himself in being engaged in his community. As a student, he led the highly successful Take Back the Tap campaign to promote sustainable drinking water at PSU, and has since served on the Board of Directors for the PSU Alumni Association, as Board Chair of his neighborhood association, and as a member of a PBOT's Local Transportation Infrastructure Charge committee. Jacob holds a B.A. in English and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from Portland State University.
