Last year was an exciting time for our team at Portland State. Under Robert Liberty's leadership, we accomplished some truly great work, much of which built on efforts that our team had been developing these past couple of years. At the beginning of this new year, we at the Institute for Sustainable Solutions would like to reflect on recent accomplishments of our students, faculty, and community partners, and offer inspiration as we look ahead to 2017.
With the support of our many partners, we made great strides last year to address some of our region’s most pressing sustainability challenges. During the 2015-16 academic year, we worked collaboratively with government, nonprofit, and campus partners to develop a strategy for reducing toxic air pollution in our city and state; we engaged more than 700 students in 86 projects that helped our community advance their goals for more equitable, livable neighborhoods; and we pinpointed places and communities that are most vulnerable to deadly impacts of climate change—research that will have implications for future development in our city and others.
This is just a sample of what ISS and our partners accomplished in 2015-16, and a whisper of inspiration for all that is possible in the coming year as we strive together to create a better future for our community, region, and world.
